We won both games against the teams we tied against earlier in the season. The first was against the third place team as we won by forfeit. They only had 6 players show up and they had to forfeit both of their games last night. That's a shame as they are a good solid team and fun to play. The second game was against the last place team. We were tied at 10 until the last two innings when we doubled that and held them to no more runs. That puts us at 4-2-2 for the season and should vault us to third from fourth. We may go 1-1 next week, but I hope to go 2-0 again. That should be good enough for second place on the season if we can do it. We have a single elimination tournament the following week.
I have a lot of fun playing softball and getting some of my competitive spirit out. I think I was a bit too intense last night as I really wanted to take home both of those wins for our team. We have a really solid bunch of players and I know we can be better if we put more effort into it. I just have a naturally competitive drive and sometimes it comes out in outbursts. I couldn't believe a couple of throws and a couple of passed balls on plays. I've seen times where easy catches are dropped in the outfield and I've had a walk in just about every game I've pitched, too. I even made an errant throw to third in one game. We all make mistakes and it hurts when we do. These guys are my softball brothers and sisters and I hope they are understanding when I get carried away.
Now for the other "two in a row". Bush has made two unusual picks for judges in a row. Roberts has been fantastic in his career, but virtually an unknown in the public eye. Miers, too, has been a virtually unknown subject. She has had a wonderful career, too. It's good to see good people put up for Supreme Court nominees. They are people that have experience and seem to understand that there are 3 distinct branches of government. They seem to understand that a judge doesn't make law, but enforces and interprets the laws that the legislative branch makes. They also stick to our laws instead of using foreign law as precident.
It didn't take but a minute from the announcment yesterday for Miers for the negative people to come out of the woodwork. They say she has no experience as a judge and therefore isn't qualified. Did you know that you don't even have to be a lawyer to be appointed to the Supreme Court as a judge? My grandfather was a judge in the small town he lived in and he was as fair as they come. When his wife got a speeding ticket, he made her pay the ticket. Of course, when that hit the rest of the town they knew they had the right man for the job. Wouldn't it be great to have at least one sitting judge that isn't a lawyer? This country doesn't have to be run by people who are history professors and lawyers. Regular, every day, Joe Schmo's can be leaders, too. That's the great thing about this country of ours. We the people...
