I do computer work on the side. Anything hardware related and many things software related. I build them and sell them. I load them up with useful programs. I remove viruses and adware. I teach people how to use them effectively. This kind of work is fun for me. I've had new challenges along the way with proprietary software used by tool companies, cities doing their own water utility, county and medical facilities. I've helped a guy go into business for himself doing computer work. I've helped others get started on things such as family trees, video work, and accounting for their businesses. I've taught courses at a community college for seniors and for a certain company's employees. I've run this computer business for about 10 years now.
Over the last couple of years I've reduced my work load to where it's few and far between and usually only customers I've taken care of previously. I've enjoyed the job I've had for the last year and a half and haven't felt the need to do side work. The previous job I had called it a conflict of interest, but what they don't know... I'm starting to rethink things a bit, though, just because I enjoy the work so much. Money also plays into this.
Sometimes you just have to pursue things you enjoy and try to do it in a way that's beneficial and in moderation. I'm not expensive, so if you know anyone that needs some computer work done...
