Last week we tied in our first game 7-7 and then lost 13-3 in the second game. The team we tied is currently in first place and we beat them during the summer season. The team that creamed us, we expected to beat us. They have a couple of guys who play college baseball. They are fun to watch, but crap to play against.
This week we tied in our first game 11-11. This is a team we should have beat, but they scored a run in the last inning and we failed to do so to break the tie in the bottom of the last inning. The second game we expected to win and did 19-10.
This leaves us in third place out of 6 teams. We have been outscored by a total of one run. The two tie games should have been wins. We play each of these teams again so we will hopefully get the win the second time around.
I looked ahead at the schedule and I can see us winning all but one game. Next week we play the two toughest teams, which doesn't include the first place team. I am sure we will lose the first one, but hopefully by not as many runs as they beat us in that 13-3 game. The second team I hope to beat since the first place team beat them and we tied the first place team. In two weeks we play the two teams we have tied. I hope to get those wins, too. If we play our best, we should only lose one game in the rest of the season. You can see the Fort Des Moines standings and scores at www.indianolasoftball.com if you would like to see how we are doing.
I did get an e-mail earlier of a Billy Idol sighting. He was spotted by a couple of the softball players at the downtown YMCA working out and then walking toward the Embassy Suites. I'm getting more and more ready for the show tonight!
I'm also wearing my new Metal Sludge T-shirt. Last week I ordered two shirts and one was supposed to come with a CD. Stevie Rachelle called me at home and left a message concerning my order. Stevie is the singer for Tuff. When I called him back he told me that he was out of one of the shirts I had ordered so he sent me a Tuff shirt and an extra CD, The History Of Tuff. Very cool of him. He also asked me a few questions about seeing the bands back in their heyday and if I ever saw Tuff. When I explained that I'm a preacher's kid, he had a couple more questions before he let me go. Very nice guy and I do hope to see his band if they make it to Iowa sometime. Kinda cool that a rock star called me at home, eh? Ok, well Tuff wasn't huge, but they were on MTV and it is cool to get a personal call at home from the guy that runs Metal Sludge and sings on a CD I own. (Well, my little brother has done that, too, I guess. He has recorded a CD of his own.) That call from Stevie was on Friday and I received the shirts and CD's by priority mail on Monday. That order took just under a week to place and receive. I highly recommend any business that does things like this! Go check out the Metal Sludge site!
